Anxious or hard to handle pets
Is your pet nervous about the vet?
Some pets become extremely anxious when they are examined or handled — particularly cats, nervous dogs and pets who have previously had difficult veterinary experiences.
One of the benefits of a home veterinary visit is that your pet can stay in their familiar environment without the stress of travelling, a carrier or a busy waiting room.
For particularly anxious pets, this may not be enough on its own.
Pre-visit calming medication
For suitable patients, we may recommend medication to be given at home before the appointment to help reduce fear and anxiety.
This can be particularly helpful when your pet needs:
blood tests
a thorough physical examination
nail clipping
injections or other procedures
The aim is to make the visit calmer, safer and less stressful for your pet, while also allowing us to provide the veterinary care they need.
If medication is recommended, you will receive clear instructions about how and when to give it before your appointment. Prescriptions can be sent to a veterinary clinic/pharmacy for collection, or medication may be available to collect from Kiwi Paws where appropriate.Nervous pets are welcome at Kiwi Paws Home Vet
Please let us know when booking if your pet is anxious, fearful or difficult to handle. Knowing this in advance allows us to plan your visit properly and give your pet the best possible experience.
